I’m big time team paper 📄 but I’ve started doing some digital recording lately. It’ll take me some time to get used to it, but I love the portability aspect of it and that you can dial into events from just about anywhere!
Yes 🙌 it’s definitely so much easier (no lugging tubes and drawing boards around) but the FEEL of pen on paper is hard to beat. Digital is a big learning curve for sure, but if you keep going it pays off.
Big fan of both mediums. For graphic recording, I lean more toward digital; I like the flexibility, which is great for print or when you need it digitally (obviously), like across digital platforms. No longer team Procreate, though; Fresco is my go-to tool now (but in the future I'm looking into drawing directly in either Illustrator or Affinity > I've been practising a lot but there are still some things I like differently).
Interesting. I can definitely see the advantage to a vector package I ditched Adobe last year because of the cost vs amount of use just didn’t add up for me, and I have affinity but I just haven’t sat down to learn it well enough to switch. Maybe this is the year I’ll put the time in to improve 🤔
I remember you mentioning this. A great thing about Affinity is that their desktop versions are free (for life!). The iPad update will happen too but I have no idea when. I can imagine it will also be free. Adobe is indeed costly and that’s the reason I’m also looking into switching, but both Illustrator (still Adobe) and Affinity are not like putting pen to paper… layer management is a mess (every stroke becomes a layer) and there’s a lot to tweak and practise before it becomes ‘second nature’ like Procreate. Fresco also took me a while, but it has so many good things (vector being the main one, no more blurry drawings when resizing!! Also: unlimited layers!). Anyway, when you do try Affinity, message me, we can practise together :))
